Horror Movies At Redbox: 5 New Releases and 3 TV Series

If you’re looking for a good scare, Redbox has you covered. Several brand new horror movies are now available for rent at their kiosks and VOD service, along with some long-running series for weekend binges. Here are some of the horror titles you can choose from for a scary movie night, along with some recommendations directly from Redbox themselves!

‘Blumhouse’s Fantasy Island’ – A horror movie take on a TV classic

The Fantasy Island TV series was a wish fulfillment drama for each week’s guest star. The movie shows the darker side of getting everything you ever dreamed of. Lucy Hale, Dax Shepard, Jimmy O. Yang, Portia Doubleday, Maggie Q and Michael Pena star.

“New to the Box and Redbox On Demand is this gruesome tale of a vacation getaway that’s supposed to deliver its visitors’ wildest dreams,” Redbox says. “But then pretty much the opposite happens.”

‘Gretel & Hansel’ – A horror movie fairy tale

Sophia Lillis stars as Gretel in this edgy take on the classic Grimm fairy tale. Gretel and her brother still find a witch’s house in the woods, but there are more scary thrills in the forest along the way, and they spend a lot more time exploring the witch’s house before the infamous oven scene.

“Now at the Box and Redbox On Demand, this creeptastic take on the old fairy tale about a brother and sister’s misadventures in the woods had critics raving about its sleek visuals and stunning cinematography,” Redbox says. “Not the kind of praise that is normally heaped onto horror movies!”

‘Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark’ – Guillermo del Toro’s family friendly horror movie

Producer Guillermo del Toro grew up loving monster movies. He wants modern kids to have the same experience, so he produced this movie based on stories from the book. Redbox sees the potential for young horror fans too.

“This adaptation of the bestselling children’s book series is something of a ‘gateway horror movie’ if you’ve got any tweens or teens in the house who are brave enough to watch it with you or are otherwise really into urban legends and folklore,” Redbox said.

‘Doctor Sleep’ – New Stephen King horror

Stephen King wrote a sequel to his seminal masterpiece The Shining, and Mike Flanagan adapted it into a sequel to Stanley Kubrick’s movie. Ewan McGregor plays a grown up Danny Torrance, the kid with the psychic shining. Home video also includes a director’s cut that adds 30 minutes back into the film.

RELATED: ‘Doctor Sleep’ Director’s Cut Adds Scenes from Stephen King’s ‘The Shining’ Sequel

“In this adaptation of Stephen King’s sequel to The Shining, Ewan McGregor stars as the Big-Wheel-riding Danny Torrance, 40 years later,” Redbox said. “Now he must protect a child who has his same powers, or else she’ll be killed by a cult.”

‘Snakes on a Plane’ – A slithering, airborne horror movie

When Samuel L. Jackson agreed to star in Snakes on a Plane, it became an internet phenomenon. Then the movie finally came out and fizzled at the box office. It’s actually quite a wild high concept movie, and Redbox agrees.

“Still the best movie title ever,” Redbox says. “Yes, it’s time to lighten the mood with this absolutely ridiculous film — which I LOVED — featuring one of Samuel L. Jackson’s all-time greatest lines. (Which is of course unprintable.) If you want some laughs mixed in with your blood and guts, this is the one for you.”

Three horror TV series too

Horror has grown on television thanks to cable networks producing horror shows with more explicit content. The Strain is another Guillermo del Toro production, based on the book he cowrote with Chuck Hogan. Ash Vs. Evil Dead is Bruce Campbell’s sequel to his movies. The Walking Dead is the long running AMC zombie series based on Robert Kirkman’s comics.

“My final 3 recommendations are actually all TV series that deal with viruses or plagues that threaten to overrun humankind,” Redbox said. “Totally appropriate for right now! I was a big fan of The Strain when it aired in 2014 because it stars the great Corey Stoll (albeit in an awful wig) and is about vampires. And I love anything about vampires.”

Redbox adds that quarantining doesn’t seem so bad compared to what Ash (Campbell) endures.

RELATED: ‘Ash vs. Evil Dead’: How It Compares to the Horror Movies

“Bruce Campbell reprises his role as the unlikely every-man hero Ash Williams, who must still battle the undead even though it’s 30 years after the events of the first movie,” Redbox says. “Poor guy! And I thought I was tired after homeschooling my kids for a few months.”

Redbox encourages fans to start from the beginning of The Walking Dead.

“The first season of this mega-popular series remains my favorite (and yes, I’m still watching it all these years later) because it shows the start of the (fictional — for now) zombie apocalypse in the US and establishes so many of the characters that millions have come to root for,” Redbox says. “See (or remind yourself of) how it all began!”

5 Iconic 'Friends' Jokes the Reunion Special Must Reference

Fans have been waiting for ages for a Friends reunion special to bring together our beloved Central Perk frequenters. Despite all the objective improbabilities — affording rent in NYC while barely working and finding time to hang mid-day during the week — the show climbed into our hearts and never left. From Joey’s charming idiocracy and Rachel and Ross’s on-again-off-again romance to Monica’s perfectionism and Chandler’s use of humor to escape discomfort, each character offered up a quirk or a dynamic. Each character brought omething that made the show the cultural phenomenon it became.

When it comes to the upcoming reunion special that will stream on HBO Max, the writers must strike a proper balance of familiarity and originality; meaning, if the special does not send us down memory lane — laughing at all the shenanigans our friends got into — it may fail to rise to expectations. Below, find five jokes (or moments) that must be alluded to for a Friends reunion special to trigger that side-smirk and a heartfelt chuckle.

5. Oh. My. God. (Janice)

While Janice (Maggie Wheeler)  may not be present in the Friends reunion special, someone must utter her iconic phrase in that nasally tone to bring us all back. From “Oh. My. God” and “Chandler Bing,” to that piercing laugh, her voice rings in the brain, and as a recurring character with a signature shtick, a reference is warranted.

4. Pivot! (Ross)

What is a more human experience than struggling to get a couch up the stairs of an apartment building with a sharp turn and a metal banister in the way? And, of course, Ross is uttering “pivot” over and over again, as if saying the word will suddenly change the characters’ ability to successfully complete the task.

Several Friends scenes were funny, for they took everyday experiences and turned them into epic comedy. The dialogue was always so attached to the characters at play, that the humor not only inspired laughs but further cemented character dynamics and perceptions.

3. We were on a break (Ross / Rachel)

Remember when Ross and Rachel called it quits for a second? They were “on a break,” and Ross went with another woman. Rachel didn’t feel a “break” meant “cheating” (was it cheating?), and the two never saw eye-to-eye on this occurrence.

Love prevailed, but the joke remains one of the most Friends-esque lines of all time. If Rachel mocks Ross — and says it for him in the upcoming special — it could pay homage, while also acting as a pleasant surprise.

2. Joey doesn’t share food (Joey)

Did you think we would forget about Joey’s resilience to share food? Joey the nice guy, Joey the charmer, Joey the womanizer…will butcher a date if she goes for his french fries!

1. ‘Smelly Cat’ or another Buffay original (Phoebe)

No one can forget Phoebe Buffay’s original song, “Smelly Cat” or the associated music video. While Phoebe doesn’t need to sing it once again, maybe a glimpse of the “Smelly Cat” video, or a reference to the song from one of the other friends? Yet, there’s also that one about grandma who stopped bringing gifts because “she died, and someday you will too.” That could also work, but it’s not as memorable.

Little Richard: 5 Things To Know About Rock And Roll Legend Dead At 87

Little Richard, who has influenced the music industry for over seven decades, has died at the age of 87.

One of the most iconic music artists to ever exist has passed away. Little Richard (real name Richard Wayne Penniman) died Saturday, May 9, according to his rep Danny Penniman. The cause of his death remains unknown. The Macon, Georgia native has left a lasting effect on the world of pop culture ever since he shot to superstardom over 60 years ago with his debut hit “Tutti Frutti”. Other legendary acts have often credited him for their own sound and style over the years including The Beatles and Elton John just to name a few. Tributes have already poured in for him all over social media in the wake of his death with millions of fans heartbroken about the devastating news.

Here are 5 things to know about the man who has been labeled as ‘The Real King of Rock N’ Roll’.

1: The Beginning. His music career exploded in the mid 1950’s with a series of irresistible hits that included “Rip It Up” and “Long Time Sally”. Another one of his legendary tracks, “Good Golly Miss Molly”, is ranked at #94 on Rolling Stone‘s list of the 500 Greatest Songs Of All Time.

2: A Toast To You. The amount of artists who have covered his songs are quite impressive. The Beatles recorded their own version of “Long Time Sally” and others like Creedence Clearwater Revival and Elvis Costello have reinterpreted his hits in their own way.

3: Fashion Influences. His eye-catching style has no doubt been seen on others as the years have gone by. He famously told Joan Rivers in the late 80’s that Prince was the “Little Richard” of his generation. “I was wearing purple before you was wearing it!” he exclaimed while looking at the camera to address the “When Doves Cry” singer.

4: Big Honor. He was part of the first group of inductees into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1986 alongside Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, James Brown, and many other notables in his industry. He also received many other honors including the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1993.

Season 5 of Outlander definitely hasn’t disappointed fans so far. There’s been a lot of developments recently that fans are still dealing with. Luckily, there’s another episode right around the corner. Read on for all the information and a breakdown of the trailer. There are spoilers ahead.

‘Monsters and Heroes’

The promo for episode 9 starts with Jamie (Sam Heughan)talking to Roger (Richard Rankin). Yes, Roger is still alive and talking. They’resitting around a fire together. “We must kill Stephen Bonnet. If I cannot do ityou must,” he tells his son-in-law.

Fans will recall that Bonnet (Ed Speleers) is still aliveand up to his old ruthless antics. Jamie knows that Bonnet is a problem thatneeds to be dealt with. If for some reason he can’t be the one to do it, thenit needs to be Roger.

There’s been quite a bit of foreshadowing about Bonnetcoming to Fraser’s Ridge. This could be a definite possibility considering hethinks Jemmy is his child. He could come and try to take him and no one isabout to let that happen.

Brianna deals with her reality

The next scene is Brianna (Sophie Skelton) talking to Rogerwhile working. “Your dad thinks Bonnet could have the right to take Jemmy awayfrom us,” Roger tells her in a look of panic and worry. They both realize thesituation isn’t going away, but only getting worse. Pretty soon, they’ll haveto deal with Bonnet one way or the other.

Claire contemplates the worst

The next scene cuts to Claire (Caitriona Balfe) speaking toher daughter about loss. “If I were to lose you, or Jamie, I would never be quitewhole,” Claire says to Bri. She’s clearly contemplating the worst and it’s aterrible thought.

The next shot is of Jamie in bed talking to his wife. “There’sa war coming,” Jamie says to his wife. Then we see him aiming his firearm atsomething in another shot.

“Only one of us gets to be frightened at any time. Right nowit’s my turn,” Claire says to someone. Next, we see Claire aiming a firearm atsomething or someone. Could this mean something might happen to Jamie or Bri?Claire looks very distraught and the earlier clip was her telling Bri how she’dfeel to lose either her or Jamie. It seems like some major drama is about tounfold.

Trouble is coming to Fraser’s Ridge

There’s a lot of scenes of the main characters looking likethey’re going through something serious. Jamie and his close friends and familycarry weapons in the woods like they’re about to be attacked. Something is definitelycoming and it seems like it will involve trouble on Fraser’s Ridge.

Episode 9 of Outlander is going to be action-packedif this trailer is anything to go on. Hopefully the main characters will alllive to see another day and make it through whatever is coming.

5 Bravo Shows That Can Help You Escape

Bravo has the right tonic if your brain needs a break from the 24-hour coronavirus coverage. While obtaining vital news and information about the virus is necessary, exhausted viewers may need to take a beat.

Many Bravo fans are already binging on certain series. From the Real Housewives to Vanderpump Rules, a few crazy episodes can help to reset your psyche. Bravo fans have their own favorites, but some series can really provide serious escapism.

So if you are self-quarantined, canceling plans or just need a brain break, check out some of these favorites and emerging shows that may help even the most anxious person relax … at least a tad.

‘Below Deck’ series

Below Deck Sailing Yacht airs on Monday night at 9 p.m. / 8 p.m. Central. Like Below Deck and Below Deck Mediterranean, viewers clandestinely follow the crew from Parsifal III in Greece. Romance, tensions and plenty of drama heat up in front of the breathtaking backdrop of the Greek islands.

For the Below Deck purists, Below Deck season 7 and some of season 6 are available to stream on Bravo. Viewers can also go back to France with the Sirocco crew from Below Deck Mediterranean. Below Deck Med season 4 was named one of the best shows of 2019.

‘Cash Cab’

Although the season already wrapped, viewers can access the latest season of Cash Cab on Bravo. The happy game show to go is hosted by comedian Ben Bailey who has fun with his taxi cab passengers. Bailey drives a cab in New York City, picking up “unwitting” customers who are invited to play the trivia game. Contestants can win money for correctly answering each trivia question. But three wrong answers means that the passengers are dumped out of the cab and may not reach their destination.

This was Cash Cab’s first season on Bravo, which meant a number of Bravolebrities made cameos and played along too. Watch for Fredrik Eklund from Million Dollar Listing New York and Captain Sandy Yawn from Below Deck Mediterranean.

‘Family Karma’

Although Family Karma is a brand new series, viewers are already feeling the love. Set in South Florida, Family Karma follows the lives of seven multigenerational Indian families. The show features color, fashion, joy and of course plenty of drama.

Cast member Amrit Kapai sums up the living situations perfectly too. “Indian families live together,” he says in a confessional. “So you have mom, dad, grandmother, maid, maid’s mom.” Adding that gossip seriously flows with the parents (aka “aunties”).  “It’s like 1-800 auntie, guess what I just heard,” Kapai jokes. Family Karma is on Sunday night at 9 p.m. / 8 p.m. Central.

‘Vanderpump Rules’

Escape to the Kentucky Castle for an over the top wedding on Vanderpump Rules. Although the season has been fueled with in-fighting and tension, the Vanderpump group still brings levity and fun. Singer Lance Bass officiates Jax Taylor and Brittany Cartwright’s upcoming wedding which looks like the party of the century.

Cameras also follow the cast as they try their hand at adulting with many purchasing a new home. Vanderpump Rules also introduced several new, younger cast members, who are fielding their own drama. Litter box anyone? Vanderpump Rules airs Tuesday night at 9 p.m. / 8 p.m. Central.

‘Summer House’

True escapism at its finest, Summer House is like a booze-cruise in the Hamptons. Fast forward to summer with this party-loving group, who proves that “summer is supposed to be fun!” Viewers get a peek inside the sputtering romance between Lindsay Hubbard and Carl Radke. But also the endless flirting between Hannah Berner and Luke Gulbranson.

Kyle Cooke and fiancee Amanda Batula are going through their own growing pains. But so is Paige DeSorbo who tries to decide if she wants to settle down or not. Summer House airs on Wednesday night at 9 p.m. / 8 p.m. Central.

Have your own favorite Bravo show? Bravo allows viewers access to stream many of their shows.

Emilio Estevez: 5 Things To Know About ‘The Mighty Ducks’ Star Reprising His Role In Disney+ Reboot

Nearly three decades after ‘The Mighty Ducks’ was released in 1992, Emilio Estevez is returning for the ice hockey movie’s reboot series. Get to know the ‘Brat Pack’ member!

Emilio Estevez, 57, is going to “lace up” his ice skates again, he revealed! The actor and director is taking on the role of ice hockey coach Gordon Bombay for The Mighty Ducks‘ Disney+ reboot series, after winning over fans’ hearts as the cocky attorney-turned-inspirational leader of the District 5 peewee hockey team in the original 1992 film. He also appeared in the 1994 and 1994 sequels, and almost 30 years later, he’ll now be appearing in the 2020 sequel! Disney+ made the announcement on social media on Feb. 13, tweeting, “NO. CHILL. 🚨❄🏒 #EmilioEstevez is BACK as Gordon Bombay! Check out this photo from production on The Mighty Ducks, an Original Series coming soon to #DisneyPlus.” Not only is Emilio starring in the new series, he’ll also be serving as the executive producer!

Disney+ even gave fans a sneak peek of the 10-episode series, sharing photos of Gordon with the all-new crew of ice hockey trainees. Emilio couldn’t be happier. “Once a Duck, always a Duck!,” Emilio declared in response to his closed deal, according to our sister website Variety. “After 25 years, I am delighted to lace up my skates, put on Coach Bombay’s jacket and return to play the iconic character for this new chapter in The Mighty Ducks franchise. Likewise, I am thrilled to return to my old stomping grounds with my friends at Disney and Steve Brill, the original creator of the franchise, to join them on their exciting new platform, Disney Plus.” While we wait for the reboot to arrive on the small screen, here’s what else you should know about Gordon Bombay’s actor.

1. He starred in classic ’80s films. He played Andrew the wrestler in The Breakfast Club, and appeared as jokester Keith “Two-Bit” Matthews in The Outsiders. Emilio was a familiar face in these coming-of-age films — so much so, he was considered a prominent member of the unofficial “Brat Pack” that included similarly aged actors like Anthony Michael Hall and Molly Ringwald.

2. Emilio comes from a famous family. Emilio’s dad is none other than Hollywood legend Martin Sheen, 79 (Apocalypse NowThe West Wing). Yes — that means his brother is Two and a Half Men star Charlie Sheen, 54!

3. He was once married to Paula Abdul, and engaged to Demi Moore. Like his family tree, Emilio’s dating history is just as connected to iconic individuals! He came engaged to his St. Elmo’s Fire co-star/Brat Pack cohort Demi Moore, 57, in 1985, but the relationship didn’t work out. He went on to marry pop star Paula Abdul, 57, in 1992, but they divorced in 1994.

4. Emilio is also a director! He’s a natural born leader, which his role in The Mighty Ducks proves. At only 24 years old, he became the youngest person in the entertainment industry to direct, write and star in his own major film after releasing Wisdom in 1986.

5. Emilio will be dealing with a much different “Mighty Ducks” team in the Disney+ reboot! “The new Mighty Ducks is set in present day Minnesota, where the Mighty Ducks have evolved from scrappy underdogs to an ultra-competitive, powerhouse youth hockey team,” Variety reported. One of the members from this all-star team (Brady Noon) gets cut, leading him to form his own “ragtag team of misfits” with his mom (Lauren Graham).

Who Is O.T. Genasis? 5 Things to Know About the Father of Malika Haqq’s Baby

More than four months after Us Weekly revealed that O.T. Genasis is the father of Malika Haqq’s child, the couple confirmed the paternity news at the TV personality’s baby shower on Saturday, February 8.

“I’m incredibly thankful to Odis Flores for my little boy,” Haqq, 36, said at the party, using the rapper’s birth name.

Genasis, 32, asked Instagram followers for baby names later that day, writing, “My son on da way.”

The former couple dated on and off for two years until Haqq revealed she was single in June 2019. Despite the split, the duo got pedicures and manicures together in Los Angeles in October 2019, as a source told Us at the time.

Scroll down to learn more about Genasis, his past struggles, his recent triumphs and his celebrity admirers.

1. He Escaped the Long Beach ‘Underworld’
Genasis “had to learn how to navigate his hometown’s notorious streets at an early age,” according to the bio on his official website, which details the rapper’s early years in Long Beach, California. “Through his adolescent eyes, he would see the crime in his neighborhood and eventually be lured into the underworld lifestyle.”

2. Music ‘Saved’ Him
“When I was growing up, I was a follower,” Genasis says in the bio. “I saw a lot of followers get killed. Music definitely saved me. … I just started attacking the streets with my music, utilizing the same aggression I did as a hustler.”

3. He Has Hit the Billboard Hot 100 Twice
His 2015 track “CoCo” spent 20 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at #20 in February 2015. The following year, his single “Cut It,” featuring Young Dolph, also stayed on the chart for 20 weeks and peaked at #35.

4. Beyoncé Has Used His Songs
Beyoncé featured “Cut It” in her 2016 Formation World Tour. Two years later, she featured Genasis’ track “Everybody Mad” during her Coachella performance and during her and Jay-Z’s On the Run II Tour, according to Rolling Out.

5. Busta Rhymes Is a Big Fan
Busta Rhymes signed Genasis to his Conglomerate Records label in 2014 after seeing the rapper perform at a Los Angeles concert. “Being known for my live performances, I love how he attacks the stage with such ferociousness,” Rhymes, 47, raves on Genasis’ website. “He’s on a seek-and-destroy mission every time he’s on the mic. He’s already one of the best performers. Then when I heard his music, I realized this guy is one of the most versatile songwriters I’ve ever come across. He’s fearless on stage and in the booth.”

Better Call Saul Season 5 Trailer Has Lots Of Familiar Faces

Better Call Saul’s fifth season premieres on February 23, and now we’ve got a proper full-length trailer to enjoy. The penultimate season of Better Call Saul will see Jimmy McGill practicing law again, and the trailer shows many other returning familiar faces, including Jonathan Banks’ Mike Ehrmantraut, Rhea Seehorn’s Kim Wexler, Michael Mando’s Nacho Varga, and Giancarlo Esposito’s Gus Fring.

Also notable in the trailer is the return of Dean Norris’s Hank Schrader, who has not been seen since the final season of Breaking Bad.

The trailer doesn’t reveal too many specific plot elements from this season, but it shows that the fifth season will feature the trademark stylistic flair of Vince Gilligan’s Albuquerque saga. The shot from inside a drain pipe in particular is very impressive.

(If you live in a region where AMC’s YouTube is geoblocked, here’s an alternate link.)

Better Call Saul did not release a new season in 2019; instead, fans were given El Camino, a Breaking Bad sequel movie. Series star Bob Odenkirk recently featured in Greta Gerwig’s Oscar-nominated Little Women.
