My husband is dying, and caring for him is an act of love

The saying ‘opposites attract’ could have been written for me and my husband Dave.

When we met in 1995 through mutual friends we were both seeing other people, but even if we had been free agents, I wouldn’t have gone for him. He was a blonde builder who had left school at 16, I was a journalist and had always gone for dark-haired, academically minded blokes.

When we both found ourselves single two years later and Dave asked me out, I hesitated – but then thought, why not? He was fun, and that’s what I needed.

Three weeks later, he proposed and I said yes. A couple of friends thought I was being reckless, that I was on the rebound, but in those weeks I got to know the real, kind-hearted, family man that Dave was, and I fell in love.

Seventeen years later, we are still happily married and living in Florida with our three amazing daughters.

I have worked at my dream job on a national American magazine. Dave has coached little ones at YMCA soccer and basketball. For a long time, life was everything we dreamed it would be.

Then in August 2017, after experiencing issues with his legs and then muscle twitches all over his body, Dave was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease, also known as ALS: a progressive, neurodegenerative condition where the motor neurones that connect to muscles die, rendering them useless. He was 45 years old.

Most people diagnosed with ALS die within three to five years after having lost complete control of their bodies, and there is no effective cure or treatment.

I remember the moment we found out. Dave was quite level-headed considering – his main concern was for our daughters, and how much we should tell them.

He promised he would fight to make every day count, and was determined that this diagnosis wouldn’t define him or our lives.

As his wife, however, I was totally crushed. I’d never had a doubt that we would be together forever, that we would grow old together with our grandchildren and God knows how many dogs.

Yet there we were, our bubble burst, and I was faced with watching the love of my life gradually lose all movement and die a premature death.

Dave said to me at the time: ‘I bet you wish you hadn’t fallen in love with me!’ I wept, not because I was sad, but because I was thankful that even with this death sentence, I would get to spend every day with my soul mate. I knew then that we would make the best of it.

Dave’s progression has been pretty steady. For a while, we vowed to do everything on his bucket list, which included trips to Alaska and Cuba for our wedding anniversary.

Last summer we went to Yellowstone Park, cramming 3,000 miles into two weeks, but I realised it was probably the last time we could embark on such an undertaking.

Dave is now in an electric wheelchair all the time. A couple of fingers on his left hand work enough to drive his chair but that’s pretty much it. He can still just about talk and eat but it’s getting harder.

I have gone from being a wife and a lover to a full time carer, something that if I’m honest doesn’t come easily to me. I get him up, bathe him, dress him, feed him, take him to the bathroom – it’s not something I ever expected I would have to do for my husband and I hate seeing him lose his independence.

Inevitably it has changed the way we love each other, too. In some ways, our love is deeper and we are more connected on a spiritual level. We value the little things more, like a kiss and a hug, or my hand on his while we watch TV.

Dave tells me all the time how amazing and beautiful I am and how much he appreciates what I do for us all.

Looking after him is an act of love – when you can wipe another person’s bum, feed and bathe them, it’s love for sure.

We talk about what’s to come – he wants me to meet someone else so I won’t be lonely after he’s gone. Death holds little fear for him because he feels his parents will be waiting, so he is able to comfort me and talking about it has made our relationship stronger.

Death is one of the oldest taboos and I believe he will never be far away once his body has left this world.

Sadly, the passion isn’t there as much anymore. I think Dave misses it more than me but he is limited physically and I have such different priorities now – just keeping him comfortable and alive for as long as possible are the things I think about more than anything.

By the time bed time comes around I am mentally exhausted and just want to sleep, ready to do it all again the next day.

Dave once asked me: ‘If you knew I would get ALS would you still have married me?’ and without a doubt my answer was – and still is – yes.

The thought of not having our kids, or having lived a good life together and created so many memories – I’d do it all again just to have them, and to have him in my life.

Nick Viall and Hannah Ann Are Flirting on Instagram Right Now and I! Fully! Stan!

Look, at this point there’s almost no one in Bachelor Nation that Nick Viall hasn’t been linked to, but he’s currently out here getting vaguely flirty with Peter Weber’s ex-girlfriend Hannah Ann Sluss on Instagram and I’m very much here for it.

Because why not, Hannah went ahead and posted some bikini pics to Instagram, and Nick hopped into her comments being all “As far as caption go…’Dear Peter…’ would have been a home run.” Hannah responded that Nick “nailed it” and didn’t seem to hate the suggestion that he should “get on this.” Basically, there was a vibe okay? That! Is! That!

As a reminder, Hannah won Peter’s final rose and a massive engagement ring—but he broke up with her on camera because he couldn’t ~give her his heart~ or something (IDK, honestly trying to block that entire season out). Peter went on to date Madison Prewett and then Kelley Flanagan, while Hannah’s been linked to NFL player Mason Rudolph.

Back in April, Hannah showed up on Off the Vine With Kaitlyn Bristowe, saying she had a “FaceTime date” with someone but that their relationship is “just a nice little quarantine fling.”

Hmmmm, whatever, still think Nick should shoot his shot.

There is a girl I really like. She is 21. We text each other occasionally and her texts and photos make me laugh, but I’d like more – something romantic, to be honest.

I don’t want to spoil things. If I tell her, would this be a push too far? She’s told me she lost her dad last year. Am I just a father figure to her? Should I accept we’ll only ever be mates?

DEIDRE SAYS: Doing that would be best. Age isn’t everything but a 34-year gap is pretty significant.

If you suggest you’d like more it could make her feel uncomfortable and make you look predatory. It would be a shame to lose the lovely atmosphere between you.

My e-leaflet Fifty Plus can give you ideas of where to find new relationships.

Mary-Kate Olsen and much-older ex Olivier Sarkozy ‘clashed’ before split because she wanted babies – and he didn’t – The Sun

Mary-Kate Olsen and her much-older ex Olivier Sarkozy 'clashed' before splitting because she wanted babies – and he didn't.

The former couple also clashed over Mary-Kate's schedule as he reportedly wanted her 'available' at all times.

After four years of marriage, it has been revealed that the former child star, now 33, and her 50-year-old husband clashed over multiple subjects and children was one of them.

A source close to Mary-Kate told PEOPLE that Olivier – who already has two grown kids – didn't want any more children, while Mary-Kate did.

"A few years ago, having a baby was not a priority for her. This has changed," the source said.

The source further explained: "Olivier has two grown kids and doesn’t want more. Mary-Kate thought he would budge on that and he hasn’t."

The informant cited their lifestyles as another reason why they broke things off so abruptly.

"Olivier is a party boy and a big spender," a source close to Olivier said. "He loves the high life."

The source close to the fashion mogul further explained: "Mary-Kate prefers to be quiet and alone and doing the things she likes.

"She’s not that interested in socializing – she likes small gatherings with select people. They ended up being apart quite a bit."

Just one week ago, the Olsen twin was "in talks with lawyers" and looking for “other ways she can get around the situation" after a judge denied her petition for an emergency divorce.

This would have triggered an automatic court order preventing Olivier from disposing of her New York City apartment.

Another source explained: “While he’s not living in her apartment, all of her expensive belongings are there, and she’s terrified she won’t get them back.”

The insider also alleged that the fashion designer had been left "incredibly upset" by the ruling but was leaning on her sister Ashley, who had been a "tower of strength" and had whisked her out of the city.

"She’s doing everything in her power to support and advise her sister," the source shared.

The former teen star turned fashion designer filed on April 17, but New York courts were only accepting emergency divorce filings due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Mary-Kate then filed for the emergency order, alleging her 50-year-old estranged husband was forcing her out of their home and had given her a deadline of May 18 to remove her belongings from their NYC apartment.

Documents seen by The Sun allege that Mary-Kate can't meet the deadline "because of quarantine guidelines" and she is requesting an extension until May 30, accusing him and his lawyers of failing to respond.

She has also claimed that he terminated their lease without telling her.

Despite fears of losing her apartment and the belongings in it, the former child star isn't afraid to come out any richer as she had a prenup that protects her business interests and fortune.

The former couple began their romance in 2012 and the pair wed on November 27, 2015, at a private residence in New York City.

Olivier is a French banker based in the US, although he went to university in the UK, where he studied Medieval History at the University of St. Andrews.

He has two kids from his previous marriage to Charlotte Bernard.

How old is Jamie Jewitt and when was he on Love Island? – The Sun

JAMIE Jewitt found his dream woman in the form of Camilla Thurlow on Love Island, and now the couple are expecting their first child.

But how old is the model and reality TV star – whose famous girlfriend is due to give birth in October 2020 – and when did he appear in the villa?

Who is Jamie Jewitt from Love Island and what is his background?

Jamie is a 30-year-old model and actor from Essex – and he found fame on ITV2 dating reality show Love Island in 2017.

Speaking ahead of entering the villa, he said: "I’m not really much of a dater, I’ve spent a long time single, just having fun.

"I lived in New York for 10 years and was single for most of it. I split up with my ex about 6 months ago, we were together a year and a half.

"I just took some time to go out, do my bit and learn a bit about myself before settling down."

However, he found love on the show with girlfriend of three years, Camilla, 30, and on May 17, 2020, the couple revealed they are expecting their first child together.

What happened to Jamie on Love Island?

When asked who he would like to get it on with in the villa he had one name: "Camilla".

Speaking about the type of girl he likes, he said: "I like girls that are laid back, chilled out, comfortable with themselves.

"I like girls to be confident with themselves, intellectual, share the same interests.

"I don’t like materialistic girls because that’s the opposite to me."

After approaching the explosive ordnance disposal specialist on his first day, the pair bonded over their love of reading. They grew closer, and finished as runners-up in the series.

He told The Sun he was happy her relationship with Prince Harry didn't work out.

What has Jamie done since Love Island?

Shortly after leaving the villa, Jamie joined Camilla on a visit to a Greek refugee camp.

Later, in 2017, he thanked her for helping support him in his battle with depression.

The star appeared with her in a one-off ITVBe show, What Camilla Did Next, in January 2019, which explored their relationship and saw them travel to Cambodia to carry out charity work.

Jamie has a joint business venture with Camilla called Love Jamila, a 100 per cent natural beauty brand, and he still works as a model.

Kate Middleton and Prince William are 'stepping up more than ever'

Kate Middleton and Prince William are ‘stepping up more than ever before’ and ‘letting their guard down’ during the coronavirus to show ‘the future of The Firm’, reveals royal expert

  • Kate Middleton, 38, and Prince William, 37, are ‘stepping up’ during the crisis
  • Royal expert Katie Nicholl revealed: ‘We are seeing them letting the guard down’
  • Said they are ‘providing a dose of entertainment’ by sharing snaps of children
  • Called it ‘uplifting’ for nation to ‘see what the future of the royal family looks like’
  • Here’s how to help people impacted by Covid-19

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are ‘stepping up more than ever before’ and ‘letting their guard down’ to show ‘the future of The Firm’ during the coronavirus pandemic, a royal expert has revealed.

Kate Middleton, 38, and Prince William, 37, have made a host of virtual appearances during the crisis as they isolate with their children, Prince George, six, Princess Charlotte, five, and Prince Louis, two, in Anmer Hall in Norfolk.

And now royal expert Katie Nicholl has revealed how the couple have been ‘stepping up to the plate’ amid the pandemic.

She told ET: ‘We’re seeing them letting their guard down and that is a result of what we are going through.’

Prince William, 37, and Kate Middleton, 38, have been ‘stepping up to the plate’ and ‘letting down their guard’ to show ‘the future of the royal family’ amid the coronavirus pandemic, according to royal expert Katie Nicholl

Katie went on to explain how the royal family’s work has been essential throughout the pandemic.

She said the Cambridges had ‘really stepped up to the plate’ and had been providing a ‘dose of entertainment’ by sharing snaps and videos of the Cambridge children.

She revealed: ‘It’s uplifting for Britain, particularly for royalists, to see what the future of the royal family is going to look like. The royal family has gone to great lengths not to be seen to be aloof or distant or unrelatable.’

Katie went on to praise the Queen, 94, who is currently isolating at Windsor Castle with Prince Philip, 98, for ’embracing’ working through the digital platform during the pandemic.

The royal expert explained that it was ‘uplifting’ for the nation to see what the future of The Firm looks like during the pandemic, and praised the Queen, 94, for embracing the virtual way of working during the pandemic

It comes ahead of a radio broadcast recorded by the Duke and Duchess in which they will urge people to speak out about their mental health in a radio message broadcast this morning.

As part of a minute-long broadcast, Kate will tell listeners it is ‘okay to ask’ about a loved one’s well-being if you notice them ‘acting differently’.

Meanwhile Prince William is set to urge people to ‘reach out to someone’ who might need support during the coronavirus crisis.

The Mental Health Minute, which will be broadcast across all stations at 10.59am to mark the start of Mental Health Awareness Week, also features contributions from boxer Anthony Joshua, footballer Harry Kane, pop star Dua Lipa and actor David Tennant.

Katie revealed how the couple were ‘providing a nice dose of entertainment’ for the nation by sharing snaps and videos of their children (pictured, Prince Louis in a portrait which was released for his second birthday)

It’s not the first time that Prince William and Kate have been praised for their efforts during the pandemic.

Speaking in April, royal expert Roya Nikkhah told BBC Breakfast how Kate and Prince William are ‘making sure they’re visible’ and ‘sharing personal insights’ to ensure the monarchy stays relevant amid the coronavirus crisis,

Roya explained: ‘The very clever thing the Cambridges have always done is they’ve always given us just enough of a little insight into their personal life, what it’s like at home with George, Charlotte and Louis, so people understand that they are going through similar things to what everyone else is going through.’

Prince William and Kate Middleton have been praised throughout the crisis for their virtual appearances and video-calls

The royal expert revealed: ‘Kate and William are making sure they’re visible, and that’s been the case for the royal family since the start of the outbreak.

Experts previously revealed how Prince William and Kate would lead the royal family’s efforts to support the nation amid the coronavirus crisis.

Speaking to Australian website 9Honey, Katie Nicholl said the Duke and Duchess were the ‘best placed’ members of the royal family to be ‘pillars of support’ for the nation at the moment.

Mama June and daughter Alana are ‘in communication’ as teen ‘rebuilds trust’ after estrangement, family therapist claims – The Sun

MAMA June is “in communication” with her daughter Alana, 14, and the rest of her family after she abandoned them to go on a drug-fueled bender with troubled boyfriend Geno Doak.

In an exclusive interview with The Sun, the family’s therapist, Dr. Ish Major, revealed the family is “rebuilding trust” with Mama June, whose real name is June Shannon, after the years-long estrangement.

June, 40, is currently living in Florida with Geno, while daughters Alana, Pumpkin, 20, and the rest of the family work on the relationship from Georgia.

Dr. Ish told The Sun: “Family gets burnt out. ‘We tried and you never got it right. We poured resources into you, time, attention and affection into you, and none of that worked.’ Family is like, 'Listen we’re done. We’re aggravated.’ It’s a very tricky way to reintroduce yourself to the family.”

Dr. Ish explained how the family is “in communication” from a distance.

He continued: “We love you, but we’re going to love you from over here. The last thing I did with Pumpkin was help her realize the boundaries. If you cannot behave in an appropriate fashion, if you cannot make decisions better for yourself and us, then you don’t get to be part of our lives.

“The only way we’re going to tell that is time. This is June earning her spot back into the family.”

Dr. Ish revealed the family has scheduled Skype calls and other planned forms of communication to see if June follows through.

He added: “They are rebuilding trust. This is what you said you are going to do, let’s see if you can do it. History says you won’t. If you do then we can take that next step. This is how you work your way back into the family and we can trust each other again.”

Dr. Ish helped with June's intervention last season and has been supporting the family through their struggles.

On recent episodes of Mama June: Family Crisis, June returned to Georgia and reached out to producers to go to rehab months after she and Geno were arrested for possession of a controlled substance – crack cocaine – and possession of drug paraphernalia – a crack pipe – in March 2019.

Their attorney entered a not guilty plea on their behalf.

But June let her family down when she did not go and instead sold all of her and her family's belongings in the home for fast cash.

Mama June’s youngest daughter Honey Boo Boo is staying with older sister, Pumpkin, whose real name is Lauryn, her husband, Josh Efird, and their 2-year-old daughter, Ella.

Although June has been working on her relationship with her family, her daughters still snubbed her for Mother’s Day.

Pumpkin wrote on Instagram on Sunday: “Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms. These two have made me a better person & helped me become a better mother. I’ll always have you two. 🤞🏼🥰 @honeybooboo."

As for Alana, she didn’t wish her mother a happy Mother’s Day.

While in Florida with Geno, June has been promoting her Cameo page, as she is charging fans $45 for personalized video messages.

She’s also promoting Payphone, where she is charging $15 per message, $30 for a 30 minute phone call and $50 for a video message.

Mama June: Family Crisis airs Fridays at 9/8c on WE tv.

'The Young and the Restless': What Is Doug Davidson's Net Worth and Is He Related to CoStar Eileen Davidson?

Doug Davidson is The Young and the Restless star with the most appearances to date. The actor plays Detective Paul Williams and has been involved with the show since 1978. That’s a whopping two years before legendary Y&R star, Eric Braeden, joined as Victor Newman. With the recent news that he may have been fired (again) what’s Davidson’s net worth and is he related to former castmember, Eileen Davidson?

Fans of ‘The Young and the Restless’ petition for Doug Davidson’s return

Actor and producer, Doug Davidson, is a married father of two, but also a daytime TV icon. The Young and the Restless wouldn’t be nearly as complete without Davidson’s contribution in over 3,000 episodes.

Detective Paul Williams hasn’t been seen as much over the last few years and fans noticed. In September 2018, the veteran was let go of Y&R. He confirmed the news in multiple interviews and tweets via social media.

The departure was such a shock, fans took to petition boards to get the actor back on board. The outcry — from castmates like Braeden, as well — must’ve worked. By February 2019, CBS announced Davidson would return to Genoa City.

However, Davidson recently addressed new fan concerns via tweet saying, “I have no shows left to air and no dates scheduled. I guess I’ll let you draw your own conclusions.”

Due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, many shows have shut down production, including daytime soaps like Y&R. Regardless of contract-status, there is a slew of petitions to save the fan-favorite.

One petition in particular states:

“After 41 years of loyalty & commitment to CBS, Emmy award-winning actor, Doug Davidson is NOT receiving the storylines and/or airtime he deserves. Please show your support in wanting a more integral role for “Chief Paul Williams” on ‘Young and The Restless’ by signing this petition. In an industry where top executives are rewarded and paid an exorbitant amount of money to go away for questionable behavior, someone of Doug’s character, talent and grace being “discarded” is unconscionable!!!”

Are Davidson and co-star Eileen Davidson related?

One question that’s come up through the years of The Young and the Restless‘s inclusion of Eileen Davidson in 1982, is whether or not she is related to her co-star, [Doug].

While it’s odd that two of the show’s biggest celebrities happen to have the same last name, they aren’t related in real life. They did, however, share a brief romance on the show (but it didn’t last).

[Doug] Davidson is married to his wife, Cindy Fisher, who played Rebecca on Y&R in the 1980s. The two have been married since 1984.

Meanwhile, [Eileen] Davidson — who left Y&R in 2018 — is on her third marriage to former pro-tennis player, Vincent Van Patten. They’ve been married since 2003 and have one child together (and two from a previous relationship).

What is Davidson’s net worth?

According to Celebrity Net Worth, Davidson is worth an estimated $4 million. The Daytime Emmy Award winner has starred in films and often makes appearances related to the soap opera world.

We can’t confirm whether producers will re-instate Davidson’s full-time status on The Young and the Restless just yet but if fans have a say, they will.

The Young and the Restless airs weekdays on CBS.

In her off time, Tom is an activist and regularly speaks out on behalf of various causes, including Planned Parenthood, Tuesday’s Child, and Project Angel Food. All in all, Heather Tom is one of the most decorated artists in her industry, and her talents extend well beyond being a pretty face on a popular soap opera.

It is clear that only good things are ahead for Tom, and that she has many years of success ahead of her.
